Through his career since 1983 Jan Willem Bitter has been active in a wide variety of area’s of the law, including international contract law, maritime law, agency, distribution and franchise law, labour law, energy law, litigation in general and arbitration law, both as an arbitrator and as counsel. A considerable share of his work was and is performed in an international setting, involving professional contacts with foreign lawyers and with foreign clients. Private international law, comparative law and foreign law are common tools used and applied in cases in an international setting. Jan Willem’s proficiency in foreign languages (see his CV) and the fact of having lived in France, Italy and Cuba are of assistance when working in an international arena.
